Healing of Blind man

Entering Jerico: the blind man

Luke 18 v35-43

The darkness encroached,
stealing the blues of the sky
reducing shades of brown earth
restricting the greens of leaves
flattening greys, brown and blacks of tree trunks
narrowing my world monochrome.

My shrunk world excludes dignity
castrated hands
only fit for pity.

Murmuring, a crowd comes
easy pickings
a good meal.

Excitement pierces the black
why, what is happening
He is coming.

Help me! Help me Lord!

I am an embarrassment.
They won’t let him see me,
They won’t let him hear me,

What do you want?
I want to see again
be as I was before
see my family,
see the colours
earn prestige.

Your faith has made you well.
Brown compassion stares as me,
red veined eyes, white, hazel, black,
dark curly hair and beard announce freedom
dust covers his clothes,
dirty feet support.

I see, but not as before.

What do you want?
I want to walk with you
to see with your eyes
to be your hands.
